Weekly Liturgy :: Sermon Based :: Week of 9/29/19

Gather

How did you experience God this week (joys, struggles, breakthroughs)?

Scripture

How did the Holy Spirit speak to you through His Word this week? (We desire for God’s Word to always be on our minds, upon our lips, and deep in our hearts).

Sermon Discussion Questions

Nehemiah 1:3-11; Luke 4:38-43

  1. What stood out to you about the sermon?

  2. Re-read Nehemiah 1.  What verse or phrase resonated with you?  Why?

  3. When we look at the life of Nehemiah, Moses, Isaiah, and Paul, they had a deep burden that birthed a vision for the people that they were reaching.  Share some of your burdens. Answer the question: what breaks your heart?

  4. It is so easy to de-emphasize the nature of God and over-emphasize our relationship with earthly things.  What are ways that you have done either? Why is it so easy to fall into this trap?

  5. In light of this passage, how can we pray for you?

  6. In light of this passage, what are you excited about?

  7. What do you feel like the Holy Spirit is saying to you?

Confession

Questions to engage either corporately or silently: What have you put in place of God or given your heart to this week? What sin do you need to repent of? What area are you not trusting your identity is in Christ? Encourage one another to turn to God and receive his forgiveness and grace. (Consider praying our Corporate Confession together)

+ Corporate Confession

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.

We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.

We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.

For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Prayers

Spend a few minutes praying into the areas God has spoken to you about. Pray for one another and for the non-believers in your lives. (Consider praying through the Lord’s Prayer)

+ The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name
Thank God for who He is and His abundant faithfulness.

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Pray for God’s rule and reign to become a reality.

Give us this day our daily bread
Pray for God’s daily provision in your life.

Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who have trespassed against us
Confess your sins to the Lord, and forgive people who have wronged you.

Lead us not into temptation
Ask for God to guide you in ‘paths of righteousness for His name sake’.

Deliver us from evil
Pray for God’s protection against any of the strategies of Satan.

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen
